Oneida County has some of the Midwest’s best snowmobiling routes, and these impressive trails are groomed and maintained by an army of dedicated volunteers who make up local snowmobiling clubs. Here’s a closer look.
Harshaw Wanderers Snowmobile Club
This club is associated with the Northwoods Passage Snowmobile Club, which maintains more than 275 miles of trails west of Rhinelander in Oneida County and surrounding Tomahawk in Lincoln County.
Hodag Sno-Trails Snowmobile Club (Rhinelander)
Rhinelander is home to nearly 150 miles of outstanding trails that take riders through beautiful northern Wisconsin scenery and connect to routes throughout the Northwoods. The Hodag Sno-Trails Snowmobile Club grooms and maintains these routes, which connect to hundreds more miles of trails in Oneida County, Vilas County, Forest County, and Lincoln County.
Minocqua Forest Riders Snowmobile Club
Responsible for more than 150 miles of expertly groomed trails in northern Oneida County, the Forest Riders groom their trails almost daily, focusing on keeping conditions great for weekend riders. The trail system connects northern Oneida County with trails in Price County and Vilas County, as well as the Willow Flowage.
New-Tom Sno Fleas Snowmobile Club (Lake Tomahawk)
Situated in the north-central part of Oneida County, Lake Tomahawk is a great spot for a snowmobiling adventure, and the New-Tom Sno Fleas’ 120 miles of trails connect to routes throughout the county, including those in Minocqua, Rhinelander, and Tomahawk.
Northern Lights Snowmobile Club (Three Lakes)
The Northern Lights Snowmobile Club was founded in 1967 and is one of the oldest snowmobile clubs in the state. They work closely with Three Lakes Trails to groom and maintain nearly 200 miles of excellent snowmobile trails in northeastern Oneida County.
This snowmobile club, founded in 1971, is responsible for nearly 80 miles of trails in and around Sugar Camp, located between Rhinelander in central Oneida County and Eagle River in southern Vilas County. The club has two full-time groomers, and trails connect to additional routes in Rhinelander, Three Lakes, St. Germain, and Eagle River.
Three Lakes-Brule River Trails
Snowmobilers can ride through sections of the Nicolet National Forest and connect to routes in Rhinelander, Sugar Camp, and beyond on the Three Lakes-Brule River Trails in northeastern Oneida County. The club oversees 186 miles of trails, which are groomed four or more times a week, depending on trail conditions.
